Securing the cyberspace has become an important priority for governments, businesses and citizens across the world. The increasing scale, complexity and repercussions of cyber attacks in recent years have escalated the discourse around the subject to the highest levels.
The number of Cybercrime cases registered by various police units in India as recorded by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is ever increasing. To further expand to reach the citizens of all other districts of the state, CEN (Cyber, Economic offences and Narcotics) police stations are established in all districts of Karnataka. Clearly, law enforcement agencies must be better prepared to handle cyber crimes. It is not enough to have only appropriate legal regime. Technical infrastructure to analyze cyber forensics data; and a trained police workforce including prosecutors who understand nitty-gritty of Cybercrime investigation and handling of digital evidence from the scene of crime and related network points the footprints of which can be anywhere in the country or in part of the world. Participation of the citizens in the awareness initiatives of CID Karnataka will be extremely crucial in curbing the Cybercrime menace. We would actively seek the cooperation of the citizens and need close cooperation and collaboration with all the stake holders of the society. Let us together build safe and secure Cyber Space…

Beware of offers/information through email/SMS/posts/ forwards enticing you to claim lottery/gift of huge prize money by depositing some money into unknown bank accounts or UPI ID’s.
You will receive a SMS/email saying “You have won a lottery”
Then fraudster will ask you to deposit the handling charges.
You will deposit the money as per the instructions
The fraudster will run away with your money
Beware of fake job offers. If you receive a job offer which demands to deposit money, then be cautious, it would be a fake/fraud offer.
Victim looking for a job
The fraudster will issue a fake appointment order in the name of the requested company
The fraudster will conduct telephonic interview
The company will deny to issue the offer letter before payment of consultancy charges
The victim will deposit money
The fraudster will run away with your money
Beware of phishing. Do not click on links, download files or open attachments received via communication channels from unknown senders.
You will receive a bank security alert saying, “Your net banking password will expire in the next 24 hours. Please reset your password by clicking on this link.”
The link will redirect to a fake website, and the username and password will be captured by the fraudster
The user’s account gets compromised and is used for the fraudster’s benefit
Beware of OTP frauds. Do not disclose any OTP, username , password, PIN number, CVV number or any other credentials to any person.
Fraudster targets victim via telephone and asks for OTP, username, password, PIN number, CVV number or any other credential
Once the victim provides this confidential information, the bank account will be hacked and money will be siphoned off
Beware of matrimonial scam. If there is demand for transfer of funds, please verify the genuineness of the person. Do not deposit or transfer money without contacting them in person.

Then fraudster will lure the victim with affection and care
The fraudster will ask him/her to deposit/transfer money to handle some emergency situation
The fraudster will run away with your money
Beware of account diversion fraud in Small & Medium Sector Enterprises(SMEs). If you receive an email claiming that the bank account of your customer(buyer/seller) has been changed, and asked to deposit money to the changed account, please do multiple verfications before depositing.
You will receive a SMS/email saying “You have won a lottery”
Then fraudster will ask you to deposit the handling charges.

Beware of online classified ads companies. If there is an advertisement for selling of any goods at the cheapest price and Dthe seller asks to deposit money in advance, this may be a scam. Do not deposit money without inspecting the product and meeting the seller in person.
Fraudster poses as genuine seller and posts fake advertisements on online classified websites
When a customer shows interest in the item, the fraudster may claim that he was travelling or have moved overseas
Fraudster tells the customer that an agent would deliver the goods following receipt of payment and victim makes a prior online payment
After the payment, customer won’t receive the goods and won’t be able to contact the seller

The fraudster demands Aadhar and other details to register car documents
